Free Phone Programs
Why this matters: Staying connected to family, recovery supports, health providers, and job opportunities is essential. If you qualify for government assistance, you may be able to receive a free or low-cost phone and monthly service plan.
Lifeline Assistance Program Providers
These programs offer free phones and minutes to qualifying individuals. You may qualify based on income or if you participate in other benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, or Section 8. Assurance Wireless and SafeLink Wireless are two providers of the Lifeline Assistance Program.
–Visit the provider’s website.
-Complete the online application with proof of eligibility (such as SNAP letter, Medicaid card, or income statement).
-You may also apply by mail or over the phone.
-Proof of identity.
-Proof of benefits (SNAP, Medicaid, etc.) or income.
-A mailing address (some providers may accept shelter or PO Box addresses).
